I went to Sephora on a mission to test out the St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse because I wanted to know if it would work with my skin tone. Thankfully an amazing sales associate, Helen, was right there to help me. She told me everything I needed to know about the product and I was hooked.

Let’s start with the basics: the bronzing mousse is sold in two sizes- 4oz. for $30 and 8oz for $40 and the mitt to apply the mousse is $6 (I got the 8oz and the mitt). I got the mitt because I’ve heard it’s the easiest way to apply the mousse, but using latex gloves would work too. I would not recommend applying this with your hands because the product will stain them.

This product is very high rated and I’ve heard a lot about it, especially on

YouTube. Earlier this summer I used Jergens Natural Glow, which I’ve used before and it has an orange tint to it. Plus Jergens is a lotion so it’s very hard to tell if you have applied it evenly. What makes St. Tropez so nice is that the mousse formula allows you to see where you have applied the self tanner.

How you use this product is that you apply at night. You do this because you need 4 hours for the product to soak into your skin without sweating. Apparently though the more that you allow the product to soak in, the tanner you get. That morning you are supposed to shower and your real natural tan will be revealed.

Looks kind of gross, I know, but this is how to apply the product

I tried this out Sunday night before going to bed. Application was pretty simple- the mit didn’t open until I washed it after I was done though, so that was the only problem I had. The mousse dries pretty fast and I was very happy that it didn’t transfer to my clothes or sheets throughout the night. When I woke up, I was shocked at how tan I looked…it seriously looked like I had spent a week tanning on a beach vacation. Thankfully after showering I had a nice natural looking tan.

Side by side comparison- left leg has no self tan on it and right leg does

The only issue I have with this product is the smell. It smells very good- fresh and clean when I applied it, but the self tanning smell was overwhelming when I woke up in the morning. I’m currently on day two of this tan and the only fading has been on my hands, so I’ve added some in the morning making sure to blend it in very well.

From a girl who has never been able to naturally tan, this product is amazing. It’s super simple to use and the color is supposed to last a few days. I embrace having pale skin, but it’s nice to get some color besides

getting burnt.

Have you tried the St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse?
