So the other day, I was doing what I love to waste 90% of my time with: Pinterest. I cannot tell you how much I love Pinterest!! (My username is ames1788, find me!) Anyway, I stumbled across this ‘pin’ about heatless curls. Of course I checked it out, even though I knew it probably wouldn’t work. But then I read the blog post about the lady’s experience with curling her hair, and what would you know, it was exactly like mine. She claimed this way worked, so of course I had to give it a try.
Before starting, let your hair almost completely dry. It should look dry, but feel damp. Right after I got out of the shower, I sprayed a leave-in conditioner in my hair to cut the frizz. My favorite is the Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat! Then right before I started curling, when the hair was almost dry, I applied Moroccan Oil and a little bit of curl mousse!
So first, take a stretchy head band, not one of those thin ones, but a thicker one and up it around your head ‘hippie style’ like this:
Then take a piece of hair about an inch or so thick at the front and wrap it up and over the headband then tuck it in. If that made any sense….it should look like this:
Then take a larger chunk of hair, including the one you just wrapped around the band (kinda like french braiding), and wrap it again. Repeat this on both sides until you have about a ponytail size amount in the back of your head.
This is where it gets difficult to explain so bear with me! Split the remaining hair and create a little hole above the band. Wrap the ponytail up over the band and through the whole and under the band. Keep doing this until you run out of hair to wrap, then pin the last little piece down. It should look like this at the end:
Then we wait. I did my makeup, started laundry, picked up my messy room, and painted my toe nails. An hour and a half later, its time to take it out. Start by unwrapping the back, then just gently pull the headband off.
And you get this!
After about an hour, the curls settle a little bit and created these beautiful waves!
And the best thing about this, it lasts all day!! And I wasn’t super paranoid about the curls falling out!! I got so many compliments and I finally feel like I can have beautifully curled hair! And even better, there is no heat involved, so no damage!! Talk about amazing!!
The one downfall to this style, you have to have a lot of free time. I let my hair air dry and then had it sit in the headband for an hour and a half, I think it look about two and a half hours total! This definitely isn’t on of those quick hair styles.
Since I know I probably failed at explaining this right, here is the youtube video that shows you how to do it!
Happy Curling!!
