It’s safe to say that most of us have gone through all different types of foundations trying to find the perfect one for our skin colour and type. Surprising or not, it isn’t easy to find the “perfect” foundation, at least in my past experience. I’ve always tried different MAC foundations, drug store brands, everything it seemed, and nothing really ever seemed to be my perfect match. Countless times I’ve been colour matched wrong at MAC, leaving me with more MAC foundations than I know what to do with. Although those are my backup foundations, and probably works wonders on someone else they just don’t do much for me. Little did I know I was missing out on what I think is hands down, the best foundation ever…I was using MAC Studio Sculpt SPF 15 in NC25, which was my “it’ll have to do” foundation, up until a month ago. One of my many guilty pleasures is watching YouTube beauty videos (what girl’s isn’t, really?) and after watching the “missglamourazzi” review on Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation I thought I’d splurge and give it a try. I can honestly say this is my absolute favourite makeup product I’ve ever owned.
I have dry/combination skin that with most foundations would end up giving me dry patches on my forehead no matter how much exfoliating, moisturizing and priming I would do. Since using the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua (in B20) I’ve never experienced that at all.
As you can see, when compared to a couple other foundations I own, the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua is a lot more watery looking. Because of this, most people assume it doesn’t have very good coverage. However, you can see when swatched on my hand that the coverage is just as good, if not better than other foundations that are said to give “full coverage”. (I know it looks like none of these colours match my skin, but for some reason my body has kept my summer tan longer than my face. Also once the products are blended in the colour matches a lot better). The key with this foundation is that you can get minimal coverage OR maximum coverage. It’s all in how much product you use. For days when my skin is clear I don’t have to use as much product, but on those days where it isn’t clear, I just apply more of the foundation, and get great coverage.
The reason I love this foundation so much is that it really doesn’t look like you’re wearing foundation at all. Since I’ve used this product I had so many compliments what great skin I have. Little do they know, it’s this product making it look that way. Another reason I love it is because it’s so easy to apply. Just to get an unbiased review, I tried applying this product using the MAC 187SE brush, a wedge sponge and my fingers, and just like I thought, I got the best results just by using my fingers. This makes the application process extremely easy. My foundation takes me literally 30 seconds to apply.
I’ve had many people ask if this foundation lasts throughout the entire day, because it does have a more watery consistency which usually makes product slip off half way through the day. Personally, I’ve always used a primer under this foundation and it has lasted me the entire day, without fail. However, I wasn’t sure if it would last as well if I didn’t use a primer because I’d never tried it. So, Gemma (another wonderful writer here) shared her knowledge of the product with me and said that it doesn’t last throughout the day if you don’t use a primer. (Thanks Gemma!) So make sure you’re using a primer if you use this foundation. I would also suggest using a primer with any foundation because it makes your makeup last much longer.
So if you’re looking for a great foundation, I would highly suggest Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, especially if you have dry skin. It is a bit of a splurge ($48 CAN), and I wouldn’t usually spend that much if I didn’t believe in a product 100%. Plus, we all deserve to splurge a little!
Have you tried this? If so, what do you think? Or tell me about your favourite foundation!
