Red lips never seem to leave the catwalk these days, whether they’re orange based, vampy or full on pin up girl. After spending years loving the red lip from afar but being too terrified to wear it myself I am now a complete red lippy convert!
Why? Not only are red lips sexy and incredibly glamorous but they are also the easiest way to add impact to your winter wardrobe. During fall/winter I love layers, but the ‘thrown on while running out the door’ look can sometimes come across as exactly that. Somehow, by adding a red lip into the equation, your look can change completely. Winter layers of jumpers, vintage scarfs and Topshop parkas transformed from student to chic as if by magic.
My current favourite red lipsticks are Maybelline’s Pleasure Me Red and Revlon’s Really Red (seen above).
Maybelline’s Pleasure Me Red is brilliant for those who are toying with the idea of a vampy red for this season but are a little afraid. It looks almost pinkish in some lights, but still retains that gorgeous deep red colour that looks so beautiful with this season’s clothing trends. Not quite matte, this has a slight glossy sheen to it. For a day look I use a little of this and work it into my lips as a stain. I should add that this lipstick can be a little tricky to apply for those not used to lipstick application. This lipstick can stain the skin slightly so if you make a mistake it will be obvious. Definitely one for a lip brush!

Revlon’s Really Red is a true red that has been suggested for a dupe for Mac’s Russian Red. I personally love this colour as it looks amazing on every skin tone and is incredibly wearable for day or night. Very matte and incredibly easy to apply – you can apply this without a lip brush!

I will be wearing this season’s red lip with a light base and a soft brown/bronze eyeshadow, brought quite low down under my lower lash line. Let’s vamp it up this fall/winter!
